Screw Business As Usual - Richard Branson screws it Again!

Just 3 words: Entertaining. Enlightening. Inspiring.

A recommended read for all wanna-be entrepreneurs.

A definite read for all the new entrepreneurs.

A must read for all entrepreneurs who made it big.

Richard Branson has always been a great narrator and he does just that in this book 'Screw Business As Usual.' He's done extensive research to present us some wonderful examples of how visionaries across the global village called Gaia (Mother Earth) are building business keeping people and environment in the forefront. That doesn't mean that the shareholders are loosing. Interestingly, an approach of business for good is turning out to be good for business.

Numbers Rule Your World

I fear books on Statistics (I find them very boring to run through) but this one stands out for the sheer narration style. Kaiser Fung does an excellent job of bringing numbers down to a level that can be understood by people who hate numbers.

All the concepts are pitched in the best narrative style intertwined with stories from real life that helps one connect the theories to their practical application.

A strong recommend for anyone who loves numbers and a definite read for people who fear numbers. You will explore them to fall in love with them this time.

What a Lecture!

If you love reading books (no matter what genre) and haven't read The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, drop everything and get your hands on this book.

Randy Pausch, was a computer science professor who succumbed to pancreatic cancer. Days before he would bid goodbye to his wife and 3 kids, he stepped in front of 400 students of Carnegie Mellon University to deliver his last lecture. Every word he spoke has been captured and authored in this book. Intention was clear. He wanted to share his experiences with the world and in the process help them to realize the happiness of 'Achieving their Childhood dreams.'

A book that I could not put down once I started. This must have been one book that I must have just ran through and while I did that, it just changed the way I looked at things, added to my beliefs and helped me define a path that is more satisfying. A strong recommend.

small is the new big...

...and 183 other riffs, rants, and remarkable business ideas that make a lovely read. In true Seth Godin style, this is a light read. The simplicity makes you wonder why simplicity is so difficult.

True to what he says, you cannot read this book in one go and neither should you try to. It is such a pleasant read that you can pick any page and get started. Ponder on each article that appears in the book and the revelation is commendable for any person associated with marketing, business, and/or entrepreneurship.

Thanks to the book, I've rediscovered my passion for writing. Do put in your comments about my latest passion.

Tribes - I definitely needed this one

If I was a girl and Seth a bachelor (I am actually not sure if he is not), I would be on my way to meet and propose to him. Tribes made me fall in love with Seth Godin, the new business leader. It is fun, motivating, and so simply realistic that my two year old listened to it with rapt attention as I read it loud.

A definite read for everyone and anyone who can spell a in the word a. Seth Godin talks very passionately about challenging the status quo and why now is the right time to bring out the heretic in us. One book that I am going to preserve and read it over and over again. What has been the impact of this book on me. You can see it :)

Prey - Was definitely spine chilling

I have to give it to Michael Crichton for this. I am not a big fan of him and I was apprehensive when I picked this book, but at the end of it, I loved this spine chilling thriller.

My love for computer programming saw a new life when I read this book with a complete new look at how programmers approach solutions. There is a lot of technical jargon in this book, but still manages to have you in rapt attention as you run through the pages. Worth a read, I must say!

Malice - Not bad but can't admit it

When my uncle told me it is a good read, I was thrilled and opened the book with high expectations. Expectations were what did me in. The style is awesome and gave me enough description to vision everything that happens in the book, but throughtout the book, I felt something was missing. When I finished the book, I was happy I did it, and told to myself, it was not a bad read.

Somehow it is better than that, because I am never able to convince myself that it is just a decent read. It is better than that, and on that note, I will give Robert Tanenbaum another try.

Indian Authors Rocking - After Chetan its Ravi now

I am falling for the Indian authors. After Chetan Bhagat, I decided to try Ravi Subramanian's If God Was A Banker, and I have to admit, I loved the book. It's an insider’s fictionalised account of how Indian professionals experience the world of foreign banks, the story spans three continents. Everything was right about the book that lived to my expectation (or even surpassed). Its an excellent read and the story and the print will let you finish the book in a day. I might consider Ravi's other books too :)

5 Point Someone is equally good but...

I finally finished Chetan Bhagat's first book recently and absolutely loved it. So that's the story for now. I started with his recent book and read his publications backwards and finished his first book. Honestly, I loved all of them and for me it is a big thing, because I am a little wary about Indian authors. What I am worried though is if his next book, whenever he plans to write one will be as good as his earlier ones. After reading all the three books, I thought likability was receding with book on book. Will I read his next book? I might give him a chance or might just wait until someone says it is a rocking book :)

One Night @ Call Center

I am kinda liking this guy. After reading his recent book 'The three mistakes of my life,' I wanted to try his previous books and 'one night @ the call center' lived up to my expectations totally. Simple and easy to relate narration makes this novel real fun. What I loved the most about Chetan is expressing the emotions in a language that an Indian can relate while ensuring that the essence is not lost. I moved on to his first book that got him all the acclaim 'five point someone.' Will post my review soon.

3 mistakes of my life

Like I said earlier, I do not pick Indian authors immediately, but am bummed for not picking Chetan Bhagat's books. I heard a lot about five point someone when the book created a roar and then that his second book one night @ call center is being crafted in to a Bollywood movie. However, I never got a taste of his prose until I picked his third book - 3 mistakes of my life, which I must admit made me go an pick his earlier books too. Simple and entertaining are the words that I would use to define this book. Is it a must read, well not exactly, but if you want to be refreshed from the constant foreign lingo pushed on to us by other autors, this is a good read. That said, I am alredy on to his second one :)

Sex discrimination on Women

A truly inspirational book that enlightens everyone on how women in Pakistan are treated. The book did a lot in exposing the male dominated culture of Pakistan and how much needs to be done before it can call itself a truly democratic country. Mukhtar Mai is just one such revelation that makes one wince in pain being inflicted on women in Pakistan. While the male domination continues in all parts of the world, Mukhtar Mai gives the courage and strength to every woman in the world to stand up against violence and punishment for no fault of thyself. A definite must read by every women in any walk of life.

Fatherhood by Bill Cosby

What can I say about this one? It is just hilarious and for once getting ready for fatherhood seemed easy. No clear solutions here, but the humorous outlook that it has makes you beam with joy. Tomorrow when my baby lives the character out of this book, I know how I should react.

The perennial #1 nationwide bestseller-and now, a hit animated series on Nick at Nite. From Bill Cosby, America's favorite TV dad, comes the ideal gift for Father's Day... Fatherhood is... - Pretending the present you love most is soap-on-a-rope - Helping your children learn English as a foreign language - Knowing that "Everything's okay, Dad" means "I haven't killed anyone" - ...and more priceless advice and hilarious wisdom.

Finally my first liking for an Indian Author

Among the latest authors that India has produced, all the words penned by them had me in a fix always. I always felt that my comprehension needed a MA in Literature. However, I still feel itchy about trying Indian authors.

Rajashree did not disappoint me. The prime reason can also be that I was not expecting much, but the book is in a lighter vein and helps you run through the pages. Trust Me is no earth-shattering eye-opener. If all you want to do is smile as you read along, pick this. It's worth it!

Five Little Pigs - Agatha Christie

My last read and as with all other Agatha's books, I just ran through this one. A real fast paced book. If you are a lover of Victorian style, this book is for you.

The autor does not need any introductions and words (at least not mine) can never describe her work. For a quick look at this awesome book, click here...
